Not only are they often winning the hearts of thousands of people but they are one of the greatest companion dogs the world has ever met. Shorkies love to please their owners very much, which makes them extremely easy to train. Part of what gives them their fame is their PERFECT size  and the amazing
Teddy Bear Coats.

Shorkie puppies are probably one of the cutest puppies you will see so be prepared to fall in instant puppy love. They almost  dont look real and look like a little stuffed animal. Depending on the quality of Shorkie puppy you get all depends on the breeder you choose! So when you see Shorkie puppies for sale make sure you do your research on the breeder.  Tea cups Shorkie puppies are the BIGGEST SCAM you will find when looking at Shorkie puppies for sale.

As Shorkie puppies mature and grow their coats will grow out and get more fluffy by the week and you will see the color change. Most Shorkie puppies get about 3 shades lighter once they are an adult Shorkie.  No matter what color they are Shorkie puppies sure are CUTE

Shorkie puppies are playful and love just to be with you. They are great cuddles and bed bugs. A lapdog by nature, as long as you are there they will sit there for hours and hours. Shorkies do not need a lot of exercise. And they are very, very, social animals.

Shorkie puppies walk with confidence and an air about them. They are easily trainable and adapt well to different locations. They loved to be babies and this is the TRAP! you have to make sure you set the rules and expectations just as you would with children.
Dont let their cuteness make you stop being the leader.

Shorkie Coat Colors

The coat color of Shorkie is broken down into five groups:  1) Solid Black, 2) Solid Chocolate, 3) Solid Gold, 4) Dobie (black and tan), and 5) Parti-Color.  Keep in mind, while a solid-colored Shorkie is where one particular color is the dominant color, the Shorkie can have a different colored mask or a few small markings of white on the chest, paws, belly and maybe even a dash here or there of a different color.  The nose and pads on the feet of solid-colored Shorkies are always black and the eyes are dark brown.  Pictures and more details are below.

Solid Black Shorkies

Black Shorkie puppies usually keep their color through to adulthood.  They may lighten up somewhat in the sun, and you may see a red hue in the coat.  The pigment to the nose and pads of the feet are always black, and they have dark brown eyes.  They can have a few small markings of white on the chest, paws, belly and a dash here or there of another color.

Solid Chocolate Shorkies

When defining a chocolate Shorkie, the term “chocolate” has nothing to do with coat color and everything to do with skin pigment.  What makes chocolate Shorkies qualify as such is something called the dilution gene or the dilute gene.  It causes the liver pigment in their points – that is, in their nose, the feet pads and eye rims.  That same gene also affects their eye color – eyes on chocolate Shorkies will be green or amber/gold.

Coat color for a chocolate Shorkie can be one of two shades of brown – a dark, candy bar kind of brown, or alternatively, a light cream-like color.  Chocolates can have a few small markings of white on the chest, paws, belly and a dash here or there of another color.

In the photos, you can see examples of how the nose is a liver color, almost a light red, and the coat colors range from light to dark.  Also notice the “up” ears like a Yorkie on the darker chocolate girl standing in the snow.  We will discuss “up” and “floppy” ears in another section.

Solid Gold Shorkies

As you will note, there is a variance in the colors of gold, with some hues darker and some lighter.  Some puppies will also have more black tipping than others, though this will be mostly gone as adults.  Where the black tends to stay is on the ends of the ears and ends of the tail.  The pigment on the nose and pads of the feet is always black and these Shorkies have dark brown eyes.  (See photos on next page.)

Dobie-colored Shorkies

This color is so named because these Shorkies have Doberman-like markings on them – a traditional black and tan.  They have recently become very popular.  This is a hard color to produce as the genes during breeding must line up correctly.  The body is predominantly black.  The puppy’s eyebrows and cheeks are a reddish-gold color that usually lightens to gold once he is an adult.  The inner leg often is the reddish-gold color and so is the underbelly.  Dobies can have few small markings of white on the chest, paws, and belly and a dash of another color here or there.  There are some black and tans that have solid black bodies and only have the tan eyebrows and cheeks.

Parti-colored Shorkies

A parti-colored Shorkie can be gold and white, black and white, apricot and white, and brown and white.  The parti-colored gene simply states that the dog will have white spotting on its body, much like that of a cow.  The spots on the body can be any color.  However, if that color includes chocolate, the pup can only be recognized as a chocolate parti if the dilute gene is present in the skin pigment giving him a liver color on his nose, the pads of his feet, his eye rims, and green or gold eyes.  If a parti is brown and white, but those points and eye colors are different, then he is considered a parti, but not a chocolate parti.

As you can see in the photos, the puppies all have white with spotting of other colors.  The puppy on the plaid blanket is considered a chocolate and white parti because of the skin pigment.  There is one black and white parti, and the others are gold and white.

Having read all this, you can see how colors might become very confusing for people when it comes to Shorkies.  It is important you tell your breeder what you are looking for.  Seasoned breeders will explain to you in detail the way color works in Shorkie coats.  One of the best ways to understand color is to take a look at our website, www.pricelesspups.net, and go to the “Past Puppies” section to see all the different examples of puppies that are already in their new homes.  We do our very best to keep our website updated with all the current photos and information our puppy parents send us so that we can provide the best information possible on the breed.

One more note about color.  I understand how important color can be to someone, but remember, it is always important to look for a puppy based on health and temperament above all else.  If you are looking for a puppy that won’t fade, we always recommend the blacks or black and tans.  They seem to keep their color the most as they mature.
